EASTER DESSERTS!

when it comes to desserts, we don't even mess around.

around this part of town, they are never scarce & always yummy. let me give you an example by showing just a small sampling of  desserts that were consumed on easter day.

let's start with momma loving's decadent dark chocolate cheesecake.

this cheesecake was so rich & yummy, it deserves two photos

can you find the hidden message in the 8lb ice cream cake?

taste & send coconut truffles!

tim & stef made a super scrumptious triple layer carrot cake. how sweet! =)

jessica's delicious chubby hubby truffles. isn't her pregnant belly so cute?

i believe there were at least 3-4 other delectable treats that i was unable to capture. it's safe to say that our clan has a pretty massive sweet tooth.

resurrection day playlist (updated)

i was given a few suggestions to my resurrection day playlist so i went ahead and updated it on spotify. take the time to meditate on the work that Christ accomplished on the cross. we serve a mighty saviour!

"And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. "
                                                                                         -  Philippians 2:8-11

celebrating resurrection day!

alright, so with easter coming up this week, i have had songs pertaining specifically to what easter is all about, christ's death & resurrection, running through my head. these songs triggered a little thought, "hey! i should make an easter playlist." this is really not an uncommon thought since i make playlists often, but this is the first one i decided to post on the blog, so that makes it's special.

1. "Easter Song" by Keith Green
joy to the world! he is risen!

2. "Jesus is Alive" by Shai Linne
Give praise to King Jesus, the blessed Son
Victorious, glorious resurrected One

3. "The Cross" by Shai Linne
But know this: the main thing the cross demonstrated
the glory and the holiness of God vindicated

SIDENOTE: before i post this entire album just go do yourself a favor & buy the atonement by shai linne

4. "Death in His Grave" by John Mark Mcmillian
The Man Jesus Christ
Laid death in his grave

5. "Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me)" - Casting Crown version
then He arose, over death He had conquered
now He's ascended, my Lord evermore

 6. "The Power of the Cross" - Matt Hammitt version
This the power of the cross
Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross

7. "The Gospel Song"
Holy God, in love, became
Perfect man to bear my blame
On the cross he took my sin
By his death I live again.

8. "When I Survey the Wonderous Cross" by Isaac Watts (PAGE CXVI version)
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

9. "On that Cross" by Flame
For the glory of God is of infinite worth
And his death'll justify many and bring new birth

10. "Christ is Risen" by Matt Maher
Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!

11. "Risen" by Hazakim
Yeshua rose.
Case closed.
He defeated death.

12. "How Deep the Father's Love for Us" (Owl City version)
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

 13. "Born to Die" by Shane & Shane
When the babe was born.
In a manger on the hay.
God saw a veil torn.
He saw Good Friday.
He was born to die
.

14. "Buried in the Grave" by All Sons & Daughters
You kept your word
Oh son of man
You buried death by taking on the grave

15. "The Gospel" by Jimmy Needham
The Gospel, the Gospel
She's good and she's true
She cost quite a fortune
To make all things new

as i make playlists i always start thinking of  more & more songs to add therefore, i try to limit the number so i don't end up with a couple hundred songs. =)

honorable mention tunes
aka - songs i refused to post because all i could find were cheesy lyric videos:

1. "Arise My Love" by Newsong
Sin, where are your shackles?
Death, where is your sting?
Hell; has been defeated.
The grave could not hold the king

2. "O Come and Mourn with Me Awhile" by Jars of Clay
O love of God! O sin of man!
In this dread act Your strength is tried;
And victory remains with love;
Jesus our Lord is crucified!

are there any songs you would add to the list? let  me know!

bye bye miss american pie.

happy national PI day!

this weekend has been full of so many important events - birthdays, an anniversary, and oh, PI day. i'm not even sure if i have ever actually eaten pie on PI day. i may have a year or two ago at c-group or somewhere because i have some friends who never miss this occasion. either way, it was an excuse to eat pie & it sure was delicious! momma loving's desserts are always this way.

besides celebrating PI day, the pies were also used to commemorate something far greater than mathematics - the 58th anniversary of my grandparents!

they have known each other for 60 years & been married for 58 of those years. how incredibly amazing is that? i'm very thankful for the examples of covenant keeping marriage that God has placed in my life. love you, grandpa & grandma!!

tomorrow we will celebrate molli's birthday with a homemade pizza party. happy birthday molli! i love you too. =)

a medley of sorts.

through all the busyness & mayhem of the last couple weeks, i just came to the realization that i never posted this classic video. my brother made up this goofy medley a couple years ago &for some reason this little tune has carried on these years. i asked him if i could video him singing it crooner style & this was the result.

i love his creativity!
thanks for letting me do this, woody. =)

from life's FIRST cry to FINAL breath

well, i'm not sure how to really start this post. the past week has been an emotional whirlwind & probably one of the most mentally draining & chaotic weeks of my life.
here's my best shot at giving a brief summary:

my grammy went to the emergency room on february 22nd. things were not looking good - heart & kidney failure. she was in ICU. our family was there everyday. each day we heard different reports, but basically the fact was her body was shutting down.

this was also the week that my sister was due with her third child. she started contracting tuesday night & a beautiful new niece was born wednesday morning! what a precious blessing!

the sign we woke up to!
little legacy.

lovely family of 5!

cute cousins - helo & penelope

meanwhile, every day grammy seemed to be less & less responsive. it was very obvious that she had little time left here on earth. on saturday, march 2nd, my dad receive a call in the early morning that he should come to the hospital right away. dad woke everyone up, then he left immediately. mom left shortly after. the rest of departed about 30 minutes later. dad called us saying the doctor informed them that he didn't believe she would pass away that day. he was predicting sunday or even possibly monday so there was no need to rush right away. at this point we were already half way to the hospital. once we got there we spent some time with grammy. we were there for about an hour when we realized that no one had really eaten breakfast. mayci took the kids (minus mysti) to grab some breakfast to bring back. during this time those in the room started noticing that her breathing was becoming very spaced out & even more shallow than before. i remember amy saying she thought the moment would be coming soon. dad was holding one hand. mom was holding the other. mysti, amy, & i were gathered around. wow. what an emotional time. so many things racing in your mind. words you should have said. things you should have done. pondering God's sovereignty. amazed that God has determined every breath we will take. thankful that He answered prayers. grateful for the moments shared with grammy. it's difficult to write about now. thankfully, the group that was gone arrived back around 9:00am. everyone was able to say their goodbyes. grammy peacefully passed away into eternity at 9:19am. no more pain. no more struggles.

i wanted to write this out now because the past 10 days have been a blur. i  have no desire to proofread now so i will probably be appalled when i reread this but that's okay.

this is my all-time favorite photo of grammy. i believe it was from the 1940s.

looking through many old photos today. i forgot about this one from last year when i introduced grammy to the blurriness we call the front camera. she is so cute!

what a creative, spunky, innovative, & sweet Grammy she was! i'm so thankful for her & she will be greatly missed. she was a fighter to the very end! i'm incredible grateful for the way she raised her son that grew up to be my wonderful, godly dad. i could write a whole separate post boasting in the way my dad has humbly fulfilled his biblical duty of taking care of his widowed mother throughout the years. this past week, he would rise up super early to get to the hospital a couple hours before he went to work, work a full day, then spend the entire evening until late night with her getting maybe 4-5 hours of sleep each night. she was one blessed lady! =)
when she was in the hospital during the final week of her life, Grammy was not able to communicate well, but one of her last (audibly clear) words of wisdom was to teach the Bible to your children & your children's children (Deut. 4:9). i pray that this command is fulfilled in the future generations of this family.

i realize this post is pretty much the definition of rambling. i don't think i've ever been good at summarizing, especially when it comes to writing.
here's two final quotes that have been running in my head this week:

1. "no guilt in life, no fear in death
this is the power of Christ in me
from life's FIRST cry to FINAL breath,
    Jesus commands my destiny"

2. "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21

also, a big THANK YOU to everyone who has prayed for us during this difficult time. the support & love of our church family is incredible.
