chicago (day 1)

mayci & i took a little trip to chicago for the legacy conference. this was our second time at the conference & we loved it! for the sake of not overloading on pictures, i will break this trip up into a couple different posts. let's start with day one!
we traveled in true roadtrippin' fashion & stopped at every cheesy touristy place along the way. first up was this awesomely gaudy antique shop.
this is one of those places we always pass when traveling through illinois. it's easy to spot & i've always wanted to check it out, but never have because usually we're on some sort of schedule. it is a giant gymnasium full of antiques!

the outside has some great photo ops. =)

also, it is national ice cream month.

next up, we stopped at the route 66 museum in pontiac, illinois.

they had this cute vw van that was the inspiration for the character Fillmore in the movie Cars.

the route 66 museum was  connected to war museum. we decided to check that out too. it was cool, yet creepy. the main creepiness was the mannequins....and the fact that no one else was in this part of the building, but they did have some neat little exhibits.

this little city also had a variety of murals to check out. those were fun!

we finally made it to chicago! after we got checked in & all that fun stuff, we grabbed some chicago-style pizza because no chicago trip is complete without it. =)

we tried lou malnati's which was a much better experience than last year's pizza place.
and that concludes day one! stay tuned for much more.

it's a jolly holiday!

well, mayci & i are back from chicago safe & sound. yesterday, our family planned on going to the muny to see their production of mary poppins the musical. i thought i would go ahead and do a post on this because chicago will be broken down into couple posts & could take quite awhile.

i posted this picture on facebook & said i was trying to convince my mom to wear this costume she threw together a couple years ago. she was not falling for it. everyone else thought it a great idea. =)

homemade stromboli & homemade desserts for our picnic dinner.

the forecast called for rain, but it only sprinkled a little before the show. PTL!

and we found liam just chillin like this. haha

an enjoyable evening! my favorite scenes were the 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' & 'step in time' numbers. oh, and mary poppins flew across the audience! that was fun.

water, water, everywhere.

citygardens is a wonderful, little spot in st. louis. it is described as "an urban oasis in downtown st. louis."  citygardens is fairly new (opened in 2009) & filled with wonderful sculptures & fun fountains. we always try to go at least once when the weather is warm so the kiddos can splash in the fountains, but is a beautiful place to visit no matter what the season.

saturday i went to a luau to celebrate helo's 1st birthday & then to a (free) needtobreathe concert. thanks again, st. louis.

before the concert we had to try an apple pie that contained 18 apples! it was purchased from the blue owl. #crazy

this picture is from sunday when i felt it necessary to les miz one more time before it ended its run at the muny. plus marissa hadn't seen it yet, so that was my excuse.
