january ~ post a portrait

so i decided to attempt another photo project! i know many people do 365 (photo a day) or 52 (photo a week) challenges, so i just kind of took that idea & made it work for me. i'm going to post a portrait a week for the rest of the year. i officially started this project two weeks ago so by the end of 2014 that should equal a total of 50 portraits. i feel like a broken record, but the reason i'm doing this is to practice so that i'm comfortable with  my camera. i have no desire (nor do i think i'm even remotely good enough) to take pictures on a 'professional' level. the reason i even mention this is because investing in the camera made some people automatically assume i was interested in photography & wanted to pursue it. yes, i'm interested in photography. no, i don't want to make money off it. i just want to be able to photograph the life around me. =) haha.

anyway, here are the january portraits.

1/50 - there really is no better way to start the challenge than with a BFF.
2/50 - thankful for stephanie's testimony that God's grace is always sufficent. we are all excited to meet her baby (hopefully) soon!

i decided to post all the portraits at the end of the month so be on the lookout for 4 more portraits at the end of february!

fire + ice

saturday, i ventured out to another ice sculpture festival! the sculptures at this one were bigger & much more intricate than last week's festival. this specific event is the same one i attended last year. always a good (yet cold!) time.
yesterday consisted of the most beautiful sunset i have seen in awhile. i was in the car on about a 40 minute drive back home so i witnessed the whole display & snapped plenty of pictures. the grand finale occurred right as we reached our destination so i had to snap a few more!
waffle house in all it's splendor. =)
the colors almost reminded me of fire, hence the title of this post.
later that evening i read spurgeon's evening devotional which said, "We must not cease to wonder at the great marvels of our God. It would be very difficult to draw a line between holy wonder & real worship...Let your soul lose itself in wonder, for wonder is in this way a very practical emotion."

 i stand in wonder.

DUDE. my nephew is awesome & the DUDE may have a future in male modeling. haha.
DUDE. in all actuality this lil DUDE didn't really want me to take his picture, but still let me which resulted in my favorite picture above.
DUDE. the weather on this particular day was actually above freezing, hence the nephew's short sleeves.
DUDE. i love seeing this little lady twirl, dance, & pretend to be a princess ballerina.
DUDE. these pictures were for a little instagram project.
DUDE. her eyes say it all.
DUDE. this sunset was gorgeous.

DUDE. as much as i love all seasons (and i really hate to admit this), i'm beginning to wish for spring & overall warmth in general, but i can't complain because it'll be here in a blink!

weekends were made for snickaloaf.

this post has nothing to do with tim hawkins or a snickaloaf, but it was one of those weeks where i was ready for the weekend & a snickaloaf sounds pretty amazing right now. anyway, stef & i went to an ice festival this weekend. it was a different sculpture festival than i have previously attended. the weather was crazy. it was snowy when we first got that there, then the sun popped out for a bit, & by the time we left it was raining. quite crazy i tell you!

we're special.
hello, moon!
you'll be seeing these eye(z) in a later post for a project i'm working on, but i had to go ahead & post some of the outtakes.
i tried blueprint coffee for the first time & it was magical.
speaking of coffee, this was taken today on what is becoming somewhat of a "hey! let's go get coffee after sunday lunch" tradition.

and here's miss evangeline looking so sweet & cheerful.

purple hair, don't care.

it's my school's spirit week so i acquired a wig for wacky hair day. trying it on the babes was a necessity.
penelope just giggled & giggled at herself and then exclaimed, "i look like a purple minion!"

and this is the face i got when i said make a face like a minion.
then we had to let her sister give a try too.
she was hamming it up for the camera.
let's talk about how adorable her little teeth are.
she didn't even try to pull the wig off.
and then she put her thumb in her mouth & was done. haha.
