smoke monster

here's the scoop:

ever since i took the plunge last year & invested in a dslr, i have been anxiously anticipating the day i could take epic smoke bomb pictures. there was just one tiny problem - no smoke bombs.
the answer- wait patiently until the end of june when firework stands pop up on every block & purchase smoke bombs.
well, here we are nearing the 4th of july & i'm happy to report that i have attempted epic smoke bomb pictures! problem - they weren't epic.  haha.

it seems i always have unrealistic expectations for photos, but these were still so fun to try. these girls were troopers! they actually claimed that this was 'fun' as they were inhaling large puffs of smoke & coughing up their lungs.

here is what i learned about smoke bomb pictures:
  1. smoke is unpredictable!!! duh.
  2. pink smoke bombs may look pretty & vibrant, but they are actually death eaters in disguise. so even though we used the pink ones, none of those pictures were successful
  3. smoke bomb pictures may remind you of a white version of the smoke monster attacking your friends, the hookah smoking caterpillar on alice in wonderland, or the dark island in narnia's voyage of the dawn treader.
  4. you will have a whole collection of hilarious outtakes.

what do you think? cool or creepy? they turned out so different compared to what i normally take. they almost have a dark feel to them, but i'm just gonna call it 'artsy fartsy' & roll with it. =)

#timanie maternity

tim & stef have been no stranger to this blog. in previous posts, i've documented their wedding shower, stef's bridal shower, bachelorette party, the wedding, & gender reveal party. it seems only reasonable that i post some maternity pictures as well. =)

mayci & i both took pictures this evening. things were going pretty smoothly until this torrential downpour occurred while we were under a giant willow tree. that tree made me want to sing grandmother willow's song from pocahontas & i almost got swept away in the branches more than once. all of us got more than a little wet, but we just used that to our advantage, which included turning the umbrella into prop.

here's a small selection of the photos i took. i can't wait to see mayci's viewpoint of the night.

then we went to ted drewes after the sun went down & this happened.

it was a great time with my sister & favorite red-headed couple. we are anxiously counting down the days until we can all meet precious ezekiel!

f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s

the fabulous fox theatre is one of the greatest gems that st. louis offers. this, of course, is my opinion but i think it would be difficult to refute that statement. there is something utterly breathtaking & wondrous that happens when you step foot in that theatre. it's as if you are transported to a completely different era. you can picture woman wearing their most elegant gowns & men in their finest suits mingling in the grand lobby. you can hear the organ music playing & then you get swept away be the silent picture that begins.  maybe i'm a bit nostalgic (yes, i am), but the fabulous fox offers a phantom of the opera type magic that is rare to find nowadays.
my summer bucket list included touring the fox theatre. i have seen my fair share of shows at this venue, but i wanted to experience it from a different point of view, hear the history of the building,  & (maybe...hopefully) even get to go backstage.
i was so thrilled that mary kate was able to go with me! that girl is such a sweetheart & it's always a joy to hang out with her.
behold! the scene that greets your eyes as soon as you enter. i should mention now that these photos are dslr & iphone. that dark theatre lighting was tricky!
i get phantom of the opera lyrics stuck in my head just seeing the pictures,               "in sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came..."

the luxurious fox club seats. mary kate is dreaming that she is an exclusive fox club member.
i really tried to limit the amount of chandelier pictures, but c'mon! that thing is gorgeous!
because we went on a day when a show was not currently in production, we were able to go backstage!
i thought i had more pictures of the incredible murals that included autographs from the cast, but alas...i do not. mary kate & i were always the last ones in the group so we were trying to take it all in & take pictures which led to us falling behind.... a lot. haha.
we also got to stand on stage!!! what a magical moment.
i know what you're thinking, "how many pictures of the fox sign can maggi include in one blog post?" =)

afterward, we went out for lunch at a mexican restaurant with the cutest decor!
 a truly fabulous day!
