dressember - week four

here we are in the final stretch of dressember! it's a total God thing that during this month i'm participating in this campaign, i was to able to tag along with jessica as she spoke about bravery at a local women's shelter! the organization was doing the '12 days of christmas' with each day featuring a character trait and special speaker. jessica told her story of bravery and then we were able to take photos of the girls showing us their brave face (and, of course, some silly faces were involved too). you can read jessica's more detailed account HERE.

day 24 & 25

day 27 & 28

honestly, this was the first week that i experienced a day i did not want to wear a dress. i guess i wasn't alone in that thought as the founder of dressember put out some food for thought. she said it better than i could so i wanted to share it here,
"it can sound like such a stretch to call a month of dresses a "sacrifice", but when you get to the end of the month, it feels exactly like that. then we remember why we're doing this- because millions of women and girls wake up everyday without the luxury of choice."

children's classics (a rifle paper inspired photo shoot)

it's no secret that i LOVE rifle paper co. my personal opinion is that anything anna bond (the founder) touches is gold. =) when i found out that she illustrated classic children's book, i knew it would be a good investment to snatch those up. after i got them, i mentioned to my sisters an idea of a photo shoot with the books where each of them dressed up as one of the book characters. well, time has not permitted us to carry through with the thought, that is until christmas break. the weather was nice enough so we seized the opportunity! when books are this lovely, they NEED to be photographed.

each of the girls picked out an outfit inspired by the characters in their books (okay, they're all wearing my clothes, except for menzi who IS wearing my shoes...haha). some of their clothes are more inspired by anna's take on the covers, which are absolutely adorable.

in case you're having difficulty seeing, the four books are: anne of green gables, a little princess, heidi, & little women
does this look familiar? this isn't the first time merri has dressed up as anne.

the inside of the book is just as gorgeous as the outside.

thanks to my sisters for their willingness to participate in my (sometimes silly) ideas!

the night before christmas

merry christmas eve! i blogged a few christmas-y pictures last week and here's the second patch of christmas-y goodness. we have opted not to do some of our 'traditional' things, but it has still been a fun-filled month.

cute snowmen ornament found from jesiii on etsy!
those dolla bins at target always provide great entertainment.
wearing lots of red & green.
because of my childhood, i find this movie hilarious.
visited historic main street with stef & cute, lil zeke!

this shop is always my favorite. plus, real garland on old buildings just makes me swoon.
and this is my favorite picture from the day!
christmas even candlelight service at church.

"But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,  to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."  Galatians 4:4-7

dressember - week three

the dressember challenge is already halfway over! as i was reminded earlier this week, it's only a small amount of time wearing dresses, but a lifetime of fighting for freedom. the dress is a daily reminder for the ultimate goal of a better future for these women.

day 16 - the "this is the only documentation of this outfit" photo
day 17 - the "self-timer" photo

day 19 - the "i will still wear my star wars christmas tee, even if it's over a dress" photo
day 20 - the "let me inconspicuously blend in with this carriage" photo
day 21 - the "awkward arm placement, but look, i'm finally showing my teeth" photo
